Based on this week’s readings, what are some of the important measures you can take to ensure that
your home wireless network is safe and secure?
There are many, important measures that you can take to protect your wireless network. The
first is to make sure that only you have administrative access to the WiFi (Siles, 2012). Also, be sure
that the communication is encrypted. People should have to authenticate to use your network. It is
recommended to use WPA2 because people engage strong security on your WiFi access point (Siles,
2012). This will put you at risk for being hacked. Do not use old, outdated security methods with
your system. There are many modern system that work at a higher capacity and provide a higher level
of security. Not having up to date security will make your personal information vulnerable. When
creating a password remember to use strong , long passwords. Try to use a password that only you
could think of for maximum security. It is recommended to create one that is 20 characters or longer.
Finally, turn off your WiFi protected management setup (FTC, 2015). This setup makes it easier to
connect.
